Choristers

Choristers lead a busy but fulfilling life. They sing in one of Europe's most magnificent gothic buildings on a daily basis. In addition to this, they have the opportunity to take part in CD recordings, live TV and radio broadcasts and international tours.

Choristers are educated at the school and substantial bursaries are available to all chorister parents to make this possible. Choristers' duties take place before and after school and they are able to enjoy the same full curriculum that is on offer to all other pupils of the school.

If you are considering the possibility of your son or daughter becoming a chorister, please contact the school office. The Headmaster and the Minster's Director of Music are always willing to discuss the possibility with parents.

Usually, pupils audition in Year 2 with a view to joining the choir as a probationery chorister at the beginning of school Year 3. Occasionally there are vacancies at other ages, though this is less common.

The next chorister auditions will be held on Saturday 27th February 2010 but we welcome initial enquiries before that time. To make enquiries either use the contact form or telephone the school office

Further information on music in York Minster is available on the Minster's own web site.
