The Minster School York

Welcome to the Minster School

an independent, day preparatory school for children aged 3-13 years. The choir school stands next to York Minster, an icon of gothic architecture. We are home to 180 pupils, including the boy & girl choristers of York Minster.

We offer an education that is rooted in traditional, family values and imbued with a spirit of tolerance and respect for the individual. Aspirations and expectations are high and our pupils respond accordingly but each child is valued for what he or she brings to the wider school and Minster community. Read more...

Message from the Head

"During my twenty years as a member of staff at the Minster School, I have seen the school undergo a great many changes but we have been careful to retain the essence of an ancient and proud tradition.

We embrace a wide and challenging curriculum using modern teaching methods but we retain traditional values in our manners, modes of address and courtesy to one another. The school is Christian in ethos but caters for, and is home to, pupils of all faiths and none. Our pupils are challenged to aspire to high standards and they respond readily to those expectations."
